The Vignettes Design Series is an interdisciplinary event that brings together local designers, artists, and makers to bring their best in collaboration, creation, and competition to co-create amazing environments. The Vignettes Design Series is made up of two exciting components, The Vignettes Design Showcase and Vignettes Does Dining.
The Vignettes Design Showcase
The Vignettes Design Showcase spans across three floors of the mural-clad Vignettes Building. Together, fourteen designers have collaborated to creatively build out 8 ft x 8 ft spaces to display the work of five interactive art installations inspired by Canadian landscapes. The gallery also features a retail store and a stylized pop-up dining restaurant. The Showcase is open to the public and runs from September 22 to October 15, 2017. The Vignettes Showcase happily welcomes school tours and invites the entire Edmonton community to come down to celebrate in this unique festival of art and design. Students are invited to tour the gallery space and take part in artist led and curriculum based workshops run by Alberta teacher certified instructors. High schools are invited to take part in TedX styled Designer Series talks with the University of Alberta’s Art & Design Department and the Edmonton Digital Arts College. Vignettes is hosting their annual VIP Gala Night on September 22nd, which will be the official launch party for the inaugural Edmonton Design Week. With no limitations to the art and design concepts within the gallery, audiences are encouraged to explore and interact within each of the awe-inspiring spaces.
The Vignettes Design Series has also teamed up with Crash Hotel to redesign and build out four undeveloped suites within the newly revived hotel. As permanent suites that will live on within the historical building, Vignettes is leaving its mark and sharing its designs with world travelers who land at the Crash Hotel. The newly developed rooms will be revealed at the Edmonton Design Week Wrap Up Party Saturday, September 30th.
Vignettes Does Dining
Vignette Does Dining is a thoughtfully curated collection of popups that pair design teams up with some of Edmonton’s most celebrated restaurants to raise the dining experience to new levels. Enjoy a unique experience, from the artwork on the walls and the live performances to every last detail on the tabletop and the garnishes on your plate. Menus are specifically catered to each collaboration, so savor every bite and sip, these creations are for Vignettes Does Dining only.
The Christenson is a temporary pop-up restaurant sponsored by Christenson Developments that is also going to be featured during Vignette Does Dining. Vignettes will host a series of restaurant concepts in the space, promising several reinventions throughout the festival. Each time the restaurant concept changes, everything from the artwork to the live performances will transform with the new iteration.
Starting September 9th Vignettes does Dining will transform the heart of Edmonton’s downtown into a hub of beautiful sights and delicious bites. Vignettes is very excited to announce that Tzin Wine & Tapas is back its very first pop up event for Vignettes Does Dining.
The Vignettes Design Series is a predominant part of Edmonton Design Week, a festival celebrating contemporary culture in the city. This event aims to transform Edmonton into a hub for creativity, taking design and art out of the studio and into underutilized unique spaces, for the public to experience.
